Yoga for Balancing your Chakras: My favorite techniques

You're living a healthy lifestyle, you're eating a balanced diet... and yet, you still feel like you're missing something. This might be the sign that your chakras are imbalalanced.

You have probably heard about the chakras and how they are important for our wellbeing. Well I have good news for you: your yoga practice can help you heal and balance them.
Yoga can be a magical practice that can truly heal you from the inside out if you let it.

Yoga for the chakras

There is a lot of information out there about how to keep your chakras aligned and vibrant. And it can be a bit overwhelming but I'm going to keep things very simple. Each chakra is linked to a specific part of your body. Working on these specific areas through yoga will help stimulate the energy of the corresponding chakra and rebalance it. To create an even more effective result you can direct your breath to that area of your body and feel it soften and open slowly.

How can Yoga help balance the chakras?

What are Chakras? Yoga and mindfulness connects us with our truest essence. Meaning that through a deep and regular practice, we can shed away the layers of our being in order to find the unchanging "me". But in order to find our true identity, we must align our energy to be completely balanced. The chakras are located along the spine, where our main energy line is flowing. We have seven main chakras, energy centers, starting from the tail bone all the way up to the top of our head. Each of these energy centers are associated to certain aspects of our lives, any imbalance in our life is linked to one of them. By working on each chakra, we are able to free the blocked energy and allow it to flow freely along the spine.
How yoga can help: emotions and past experiences can get stuck in our body. In my Chakra Special, I guide you through the different chakras in order to elevate your energy. You will be able to balance your energy centers, only by being aware of the areas that are more tense and where the energy feels blocked. If you feel that one of your chakras is stuck, you can learn more about that energy center in order to work on it a little bit more.
Each chakra has a color and a mantra linked to it that can help you further clear and activate it. You may need a lot of time to heal, so give it time. Remember, this is not a race.

Here are some tips to balance your chakras:

-Focus on one chakra at a time, starting from the base of the spine: The first chakra is all about stability and our roots, without a proper base your foundation will be weak. You definately don't want an unstable base. Learn about the first chakra and move from there.
-Work on the poses that activate the chakra you're working on: Listen to your body and add in the stretches and the strenthening poses that will focus on the specific chakra that you want to balance. You might feel some emotions passing through, that's perfectly normal. That's a good sign that you're letting go of what you no longer need.
-Bring visualisation to your practice: Let your imagination help you free any stagnant energy your body might be storing. Place your hands on your chakra and visualise it's corresponding color. Choose some restorative poses to accompany this practice to go even deeper.
-Add a mantra: Mantras can be very powerful. Repeat the specific mantra of your chakra during meditation or while staying in an asana. Focus on the vibrations that the sounds create inside of you. Once you're finished, take some time to remain silent and observe the effect of the sounds.

I've created a 2 part class that will help you learn about the chakras. You can access them here or you can try the short version of the class on youtube.
